Walking The Ramp
Posted: 31st July 2009
Even though I did not play any tournament last week, it still turned out to be a very exciting one. I added a first against my name – I walked the ramp.
I agreed to become the showstopper for one of India’s biggest designers, Rocky S, who brought the curtains down on the Bangalore Fashion Week. I thought it would be something different and great fun, but as the date started getting closer, I had trepidations about the whole thing.
In the end, I thought it went pretty well and I got several compliments from some of the established models about the confidence with which I walked. One thought changed my entire outlook – I told myself that if I could walk down the fairway and keep up with Tiger Woods at the Masters, the ramp should be a walk in the park.
It also helped that I was wearing traditional Indian clothes – sherwani and a churidar pajama. I guess that was another reason I felt confident. I know I can carry off Indian clothes, but I am not so sure if I would have been as comfortable in western clothing.
Apart from the fashion show, I have mostly been relaxing in my hometown of Chandigarh and getting some physio work done so that my ribs are in fine shape when I make a comeback to the Tour at the World Golf Championship’s Bridgestone Invitational next week.
I started easing into my pratice routine towards end of last week, and the pain wasn’t there. Let’s see how I shape up for the Akron showdown, which will be followed by the fourth and final Major of the season – the PGA Championship.
I was delighted to see young Gaganjeet Bhullar winning his first Asian Tour event in Indonesia last week. He is one of the finest talents emerging from India and as I wrote last week, the experience of playing the Open Championship at Turnberry should do him a world of good.
I am looking forward to see how Tiger does at the Buick tournament this week. I think it is the first time that he is playing three weeks in a row – Bridgestone and PGA after this. He should come out all guns blazing after missing only his second cut at the Majors as a professional.
