It’s said that nobody remembers who finishes second. Don’t tell that to Joost Luiten and Simon Wakefield, who both had to be content with runner up position last weekend.

Joost had an outstanding Wales Open to record his season-best finish behind Thongchai Jaidee, while Simon also returned to the sharp end of tournament life with second in the Fred Olsen Challenge de España.

Knowing just how driven Joost and Simon are, I fully expect them to build on last week’s efforts and go one better in the very near future.

Romain Wattel finished tied eighth on three under following his final round 68, while Chris Wood, Gregory Bourdy and George Coetzee were tied 14th. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if all those collected wins before the end of the season.

Although six under par in Wales was good enough to win, Simon was three times better than that in Spain, but was still headed. It just shows how much talent there is from top to bottom in the European Tour.

A course record 61 in Spain saw Charlie Ford rocket up the placings and he was rewarded with a top ten finish which is exactly what Florentyna Parker enjoyed at the Deloitte Ladies Open.

Now we head to Sweden and I’m expecting another bumper week for ISM.
